Uncle James, Part Two
Congratulations to my new nephew, Jasper (name to-be-determined, possibly “Noah” or “Elliot”), who was born this morning, on his older brother Julian’s second birthday. Julian was born two years ago, exactly two years and four minutes before his newborn brother.
Poor kids, as if brothers don’t share enough already, they have to share a birthday, too. I had a hard enough time just sharing hand-me-down clothes with my older brother.
I wake up, and the day feels broken…
I thought this song was appropriate for today: Björk, It’s not up to you, from her best album to date, Vespertine.
I wake up
And the day feels
Broken.
I tilt my head.
I’m trying to get an angle,
’Cause the evening
I’ve always longed for…
It could still happen. […]
Anyway, it’s not up to you.
Oh, it never really was. […]
I can decide
What I give,
But it’s not up to me,
What I get given:
Unthinkable surprises,
About to happen,
But what they are… […]
It’s not up to you.
Well, it never really was.
